| As the Philippines' Miss International 2005 shed
some tears for the loss of a loved one, deprived children below of San Nicolas town,
Bulacan, Bulacan spent their afternoon, 01 October 2005, playing mock softball. |

With a piece from a broken tree branch, these kids try to score a hit with a softball.
With ages ranging from 9 -13 years old (some of them are out-of-school) when will the
claws of our society's ills grab-hold onto these kids. The common "crack" or
poor mans cocaine is fast becoming a menace in this town some 40 kilometers north-west of
Manila.

When asked if they wanted to learn the rudiments of the game, I got a resounding yes.
These are 10 kids meeting at the Marcelo H. Del Pilar Park in the afternoons to play ball.
Lester C. Roque, 10, Jhumar Baraclan, 11, Danilo Caguingin, 10, Roel Antonio, 11, Erwin A.
Victoria, 12, Kirk John Alusin, 9, Carl Allen M. Godoy, 13, Jerick M. Paraiso, 13, Jomari
M. Gloria, 13 and Edward Coronel, 11.
A bat and a ball might help them keep away from drugs.
If any of our surfers are interested in providing some assistance in the form
of training and a softball or baseball equipment for these kids, please contact (0918)
3563831 or send us an email.
Who knows if we are depriving a world class athlete from the aspirations of this young
batch of Filipinos.

Meanwhile, suspected drug pusher, Idang Concepcion, 38, was presented to Baranggay
Chairman Francisco "Cocoy" Del Rosario, San Jose, Bulacan, Bulacan, some 40
kilometers north of Manila. The suspected drug pusher fell into the hands of the local
authorities after a buy bust operation, conducted by the local Philippine National Police
and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. Ms. Concepcion was caught by the operatives
selling poor man's cocaine or "shabu" in the school canteen of the Dona Trinidad
Mendoza Institute (DTMI). The institute earned a new name for itself, the Drug Training
and Management Institute from the local population of Bulacan town. |
